DUBLIN BAY IN ACTION
SPRING 1995

Dublin Bay Action for Health Group is an umbrella organization for concerned Residents Associations, including: Sandymount-Merrion, Canon Mooney Gardens, Bath Avenue Residents' Association, Ringsend-Irishtown, RING, BADRA and SPRA.

Last October the company 'Waste to Energy' lodged an application with Dublin Corporation to build a hazardous waste incinerator on Pigeon House Road, within a stone's throw away from schools and homes. If public pressure is not stepped up, permission for the new plant may be approved very soon. If this scheme if to be stopped more voices must be heard. That means your support.

The process of sterilizing and micro-waving have been given the green light by many European Governments. Waste is shredded, then disinfected in a compact container resulting in processed waste granules free of harmful bacteria and viruses, which can then be landfilled. The volume can be up to 80% no hazardous air-pollution and very little noise.

It is obvious that building another incinerator will only create more problems for the local communities. The area presently has a housing crisis… any available land should be re-zoned rather than serve the hazardous waste industry.
