KITE MAKING IN RINGSEND LIBRARY
By John Cheevers
Kites of various designs, such as the Lantern, the Caterpillar and the Whistling Kite, so called because of the high pitched sound it emits, were on display and are extremely popular at festival times in China. The children constructed their kites from scratch. They cut out the shape of the kite and carefully positioned the frame. The tail which is needed for balance was attached. Their finished creation was appropriately emblazoned with a Chinese symbol, and they were ready for take-off. Above, from left: Jasmine, St. Bridget’s School; |
