On February 20th at Railway Union Adrian Birrell, pictured, former coach to the Irish Cricket team delivered a presentation entitled: ‘Ireland in the Caribbean 2007– the story behind the success’.

All sports fans present got an insight into Adrian’s passion, attention to detail, dedication and how his coaching philosophy, vision, man management and motivational skills developed from his early times coaching in the South African townships up to Ireland’s participation in the Cricket World Cup with three players from Railway Union in the squad.

The audience found out what makes a successful and inspirational sports coach ‘tick’ or others simply attended to recall the excitement of Ireland’s participation in the Cricket World Cup.

The evening was also an opportunity to purchase signed copies of ‘Raiders of the Caribbean’ by Trent Johnston and local writer Gerard Siggins.

All proceeds from the event will be directed towards the development of Youth Cricket in Railway Union over the next year. Coaches from the Club will soon be visiting our local schools, with the cricket seasonjust around the corner, and pupils and parents will be given full details.
