THE DOOR SCULPTURE, MARCH 8TH 2008

On Monday 2nd December 2002 a street sculpture of a wooden door was erected at the Library Plaza. The Door, sculpted by Joe Moran, symbolises the Hall Door that most victims of domestic violence are trapped behind.

Following on from this, a permanent sculpture called ‘The Door’ will be unveiled by Ringsend Action Project at Ringsend Library Plaza on the 8th of March this year. The 8th March is International Women’s Day and RAP is using this occasion for the unveiling of the sculpture.

Crucially, ‘The Door’ is ajar, representing the fact that, with help and support, there is always a way out of a situation of domestic violence and hope for the future.
Made of bronze and wood, this representational piece is intended to be a beacon for those who choose to seek sanctuary from physical, sexual, and mental abuse.
