ENJOY RINGSEND & WOMAN'S WEEK - DOOLAN
International Women’s Day is an international celebration for women all around the world. And this year it is coming to Ringsend. Sinn Féin’s Councillor Daithí Doolan was delighted when his motion calling on Dublin City Council to host an event in Ringsend to celebrate International Women’s Day was passed in November. Speaking to ‘NewsFour’, Cllr. Doolan said: “Women have been the backbone of this community for generations. Yet women get very little recognition for all the great work they do both in the home and in our communities. “The reason I tabled the motion was in an attempt to give due recognition to all this work. The motion was passed in November and in January we held a meeting with community groups, Dublin City Council and Dublin Docklands Development Authority to see what exactly we should do. “We agreed that the main theme would be promoting women’s health. We now have a packed agenda for the week leading up to International Women’s Day on March 8th. Cllr. Doolan concluded by urging, “women to come along and enjoy a wide range of free events and celebrate International women’s Day on Saturday night.” |
