Billy Jaygo:
Billy Jaygo, pictured right,
is a renowned friend and a
very good person in the community
of Sandymount/ Ringsend.
He is just like a landmark in
this area and is known by one
and all.
You will see him each morning,
he helps out in Ringsend
Church doing confraternity
duties, he attends and helps
out at mass and funerals.
He is of a friendly disposition
and has a kind word for
everyone he meets.
He has great friends in Irishtown,
he calls in to see Cocker
(Catherine) Reilly, known to
the Ringsenders and her husband
Tony Quinlan and their
family, he loves Cocker and
Tony and calls in to see them
every morning.
He is also great friends with
Linda Reilly (Cockerʼs sister)
and they have great old banter
when they all get together.
His other friends are Kim and
Karen Flood from Ringsend.
Billy celebrated his Birthday
on 21st November 2009
and was the good age of 71,
which is very hard to believe.
He hails from Ennis Grove,
where he lived all his life
with his parents and brothers
and sisters. His brother Richard
was a true and good friend
to one and all just like Billy.
Richard passed away a few
years ago, there being only
Billy and Richard left in the
house before Richard passed
away.
Everyone thought Bill
would never survive alone,
but he amazed one and all and
is doing brillant living alone.
His two sisters Josie and
Vera come over weekly to
help with the cleaning etc.
But I visted Billy recently
and he would put any woman
to shame, his home is gleaming
and a absolute credit to
him.
In years gone by, Billy always
wheeled a wooden
wheelbarrow all over this
town and was known really,
really well. When I was a
young girl, he often would be
waiting outside our school–
Lakelands Convent, Sandymount–
to collect a gang of
us schoolgirls. This he did on
many an occasion for the local
lassies and lads.
When I think back now, I
feel terrible that Billy had to
lug us all around, it must have
been back-breaking. So to sum
Billy Jaygo up in a nutshell,
he is a kind, caring, decent
man, very innocent too, who
would go out of his way to do
anything to help anyone and
if you do not believe me, just
ask anyone in this village. I
want to acknowledge him and
his kind deeds and wish him
well in all things. Billy you
are a true friend.
Best wishes Billy,
Your friend,
Margaret Dunne
Hello all
I was wondering could
readers of NewsFour be able
to help me with some information
on a factory that operated
in Ringsend during the
60s and 70s and closed in the
1980s.
The name of the company
was Reg Armstrong Motorcycles.
It would be great if
anyone has any pictures or
footage of the building during
its operating days. If anyone
worked there and could recall
anything of historical value to
me I would be very grateful
indeed,
I can be contacted on
