WINES FOR EASTER
By Therese O'Toole

I for one, love this time
of year. As evenings get
brighter and the scent of
spring is in the air, I look forward
to enjoying some lighter
wines. Even if youʼve made a
Lenten sacrifice, Easter is just
over the horizon.
Some of my favourit
e wines
this time of year include the
following and are available at
The Wine Boutique in Ringsend,
and at good independent
wine stores.

Domaine de Bisconte, Cotes
du Roussillon, 2008 13% abv
€11.85

From the Languedoc Roussillon
region, this red wine is
made from a blend of Syrah,
Grenache and Carignan. Aged
12 months in oak, this is an elegant,
fruity wine with aromas of
red fruits and vanilla followed
by good tannins combined with
liquorice spice and vanilla.
Recommended with lamb.

Greenstone Point Sauvignon
Blanc 2008, New Zealand.
13% abv €13.00

This Sauvignon Blanc is produced
from grapes grown in the
heart of the Marlborough region
in New Zealand. Aromas
of ripe tropical fruit, bell peppers
with herbaceous, grass and
citrus notes. This is a dry wine
with crisp acidity and flavours
of green apples, peaches, pink
grapefruit and lime. Fresh and
lively on the palate, this is an
ideal accompaniment to seafood
dishes & white meats.

Alpha Zeta V Valpolicella,
2008 12.5% abv €10.75

From Verona, this wine is a
blend of Corvina, Rondinella
and Corvinone. Displaying an
abundance of black cherries
and redcurrants on the nose,
this wine is light in style with
flavours of raspberries, loganberries
and plums on the palate.
This is ideal with roast lamb
and roast pork.

Evel Branco, 2009, Portugal
13.5% abv €10.99

Hailing from the Douro region,
Evel is the leading Douro
brand in Portugal. Made from
a blend of Moscatel Galego,
Viosinho and Arinto, resulting
in a wine light and easy drinking
in style. With intense floral
aromas, this is a light, medium
bodied wine with balanced
acidity and flavours of peaches
and melon. Recommended with
white meats, chicken and pork
and excellent with seafood.
