RANELAGH VILLAGE MARKET - A CULINARY EXPERIENCE
By Louise Hanrahan

After having the
pleasure of moving
to Ranelagh village
just before Christmas last
year, I have been amazed by
the vibrancy of the area and
its environs. Rathmines is
just around the corner, and is
also a lively spot with shops,
restaurants, hostelries, and
everything for the consumer
is on offer!

I had a very pleasant day
out last Saturday when my
friend and I decided to pay
a visit to the local Village
Market located next to Superquinn
on the main street

in Ranelagh.

The Village Food & Craft
market is open Saturday and
Sunday every week. The
stalls were second to none,
and my mouth watered at the
delicious aromas and gourmet
delicacies on display
There is an indoor gourmet
food hall, a separate
arts and crafts section and
the hot food cabins are set
in the landscaped garden
areas. The market also features
a covered patio area to
the rear, allowing customers
some time to sit, relax, take
in the warm market atmosphere
and enjoy a spot of
people-watching.

Car parking for up to 60
cars is available free of
charge to customers and a
childrenʼs playground will
help keep the kiddies occupied
while mums & dads
take in the fabulous range of
treats on offer.

Most of the food cabins offered
a choice of food along
the lines of organic burgers,
fruit & vegetables, Sicilian
food, freshly baked bread,
cookies, cupcakes, a wide
variety of teas, coffees and
home-made smoothies.

There was also a wide
range of organic free-range
meats, cheese, freshly caught
fish, pastas and essential oils
to make your home cooking
more special than ever.

The books on display were
great value and I thoroughly
enjoyed skimming through
them. One of my favourite
stalls was the handmade
jewellery. I browsed for ages
and each piece I saw was better
than the next. The lamps
were the most vibrant Iʼve
seen in any shop in a long
time. The shades alone were
of every different colour and
pattern and I wanted to buy
the whole range!

Itʼs a market that offers visitors
an exciting and original
experience, a place where
people can eat out, purchase
great quality food, and experience
designer fashion and
craft excellence at its best.
Plus of course, it is a chance
to support Irish-run small
businesses.

In a nutshell folks, itʼs a
place to spend a great day
out and avoid this horrendous,
bitter weather, but not
sit in hibernating.

The Irish Village Markets
are extremely popular and
are run privately by market
and festival operators. They
are run in various towns and
villages around Leinster and
offer thousands of customers
an exciting and diverse alternative
to the local supermarkets
who are constantly in
competition.

Worth a visit, folks!
The Village Market is open
every Saturday and Sunday
from 10am to 6pm.

Enjoy it!
