Fran Nangle won a European medal when fighting was aggressive in 1979. He has had huge achievements over the years including a gold medal from the Irish Cup which took place only a few years ago. He is the president of the Irish National Wado-Kai Federation. He went on to be awarded a place in the hall of fame in Romania. Fran is the President of the World Karate Confederation and has the highest achievement of Chief Referee of a tatami area, the only one in the Republic to be awarded this great position. Fran was awarded the Unsung Heroes award for the work he has done with the young people in the community. Erica Nangle, grand-daughter of Fran, has won medals in Florida and Czechoslavakia. Cheryl Kelly, who helps with instruction, has had huge achievements including achieving a Silver in the World Championships in Italy and overall British Champion. Deirdre O'Connor has represented Ireland internationally at an extremely high level and brought home first place in the British Championship 2006. Following in her footsteps is her son Keith who has also represented Ireland and has proudly brought home medals. The Club is indebted to friends and past instructors Larry Johnston and Johnny Moore, also Paul Brennan, Paul O'Brian, Harry Dunne and Rachael Barry. Deborah Barry (RIP) is very fondly remembered. Well done to the families of Brennans, Rimmers, Byrnes (two of them) and Donoghues who have supported the Club over 30 years and are still training. |
