THE EDITOR'S CORNER

WE ARE bringing you lots of Christmas good
cheer in this edition and I hope you will enjoy
the variety on offer. However we canʼt just bury
our heads in the sand and believe that everything
is miraculously wonderful because it is Christmas.
I was very moved by the story of the destruction
that drink and drugs can cause

. It is a cautionary tale and we should all be
aware of the devastating consequences of addiction
in our society.

Time for lots of thank yous after a very successful
year here in NewsFour. Miriam has made
herself invaluable as my right hand. Grainne
does a great job in coaxing advertisers. The
team of writers we have working on the paper
constantly come up with news items and creative
ideas and astonish me with their versatility.

Our constant contributors are a great support to
us and we could not do without them. Eugene
manages to assemble each edition into the shape
you see before you.

John Cheevers is now well
known in the area as he photographs children,
shops, sportsmen or whatever else he is asked
to do.

From the financial end of things there would
be no NewsFour if we didnʼt have our advertisers
and we canʼt thank them enough. Andrew
Thorn puts together our website (www.news4.
ie) which is appreciated by our overseas enthusiasts.
Jean Goad manages to get around the area
delivering the paper far and wide. To each and
everyone of you who call in to see us and bring
your stories, my thanks.

The sponsors of Sandymount Community
Services are to be congratulated on their work
throughout the year keeping our Community
Employment project going and me under control.
Thanks are due to Caroline Kavanagh of
FÁS also in this regard.

I hope you enjoy the run up to Christmas but
go easy on yourselves. We have provided great
gift ideas from your local traders (pages 22 and
25) so there is no need for all that hassle in the
city centre.

We will be back with you in February but until
then have a great time over Christmas and the
New Year.
