WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING IN
RINGSEND & IRISHTOWN YOUTH PROJECT

Ringsend and Irishtown Youth Project have had a busy first term back. Our DJ group (13+) performed at the local Disco which was a huge success. The group are getting ready to do some fundraising after Christmas to raise money to help get their own equipment.

A Young Woman's group (14+) was set up in late October. This group is getting into full swing now. They have had a beautician in, done some personal development work and are hoping to take part in making a movie next year.

The Drama group was initially slow to take off but we are hoping to put on a Variety show next year. It's for young people aged 7 to 21 and meets every Monday at 6pm in the Community Centre Hall. So if you are interested in taking part call down to the Youth Project. A new group has been set up, Ringers First Years (RFY) who have formed their own committee and designed their own logo. The group gives them a chance to talk about the changes from sixth class to first year.

The focus of their activities has been around communication skills. Legends of Ringer (10-12) kicked off their year with a magic workshop where they learned tricks and then had to show these to the rest of the group. This was a great confidence boost for everyone involved. The group are busy now making home-made Christmas cards and are looking forward to going ice-skating, as are all the groups, for their Christmas trip.

90 Cent (10-12) took part in a 'Minding Myself' programme along with Dan Russell, Sports Development Officer from Dublin City Council. As part of this group the young people took a fitness test and looked at their eating habits.

The Community Centre staff, Jack O'Brien and Philip McDonagh, who look after the fabulous gardens in the Community Centre, helped the young people to plant their own vegetables and flowers. We would like to thank them for their time, patience and expertise.

Everyone at Ringsend and Irishtown Youth Project would like to wish the whole community a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Above: Philip McDonagh and Jack O'Brien gardening with the 90 Cent group from RIYP.
