WATERSEDGE DRAMA GROUP SCOOP NATIONAL AWARD

Sorry, Tara, that we did not put this story on the cover of this issue, but we felt it would be inappropriate to do so with the gloomy topic of incineration as a backdrop.

The remarkable success of ‘Where Have All The Spoons Gone’ does deserve front page billing. The play continued in Belfast recently when writer, and former News Four pundit, Tara Gray scooped the overall Adjudicators’ Award at the North and South Community Drama Festival.

The play was performed by Watersedge Drama Group in front of the festival judges and in the end saw off stiff competition from drama groups from both sides of the border.

The award comes at the end of a success-filled year for both the group and the play. Starting in November of last year, Watersedge performed three sold-out nights in Ringsend Technical School before moving onto the City Arts Centre for another two nights.

Recently the group, along with Stream Productions, staged the play to much acclaim in Liberty Hall and Cabra. There are also plans to put ‘Spoons’ on again next year. Meanwhile, Tara’s creative talents are busily working away at the typewriter with further new plays to come on stream.

So, from all at News Four, congratulations to you, Tara and especially to all the talented Watersedge crew who brought the play to a successful life.

CHRISTMAS TREE IN SANDYMOUNT GREEN

We could not have a camera at the switching-on of the lights on the Christmas tree in Sandymount Green. Our paper was literally going to the printers as the ceremony happened. We have to thank the efforts of local Tidy Town stalwart, Margaret O’Doherty, for her efforts to set the venture in train. The lighting of the tree was formally launched by Harry Sheils, President of ALONE.

This Christmas sees the coming to the end of the Year of the Elderly. Harry hopes that the light of Christmas will shine for all the older members of our community. It is up to us all to make sure that this is a reality. The support of Dublin Corporation and Dublin Parks Department made sure that everything was in place. Margaret paid particular thanks to Councillor Dermot Lacey for his influence in the corridors of power in getting the the Corporation’s imprimatur for the Parks Department to proceed with their work.
