Believe
it or not but this is the fourteenth year of the Wren Day Celebrations
in Sandymount on St. Stephen's Day. As usual the Cerebral Palsy Clinic
on Sandymount Avenue is the beneficiary of the generosity shown by all
the participants on the day.
The Guinness Gig Rig will be in situ to give the many entertainers a suitable
stage to display their musical talents. Proceedings commence at 11.00
am, yes at 11.00 am, in O'Reilly's Pub on Seafort Avenue with poetry and
literary readings. All are welcome to attend and make a literary contribution.
At noon the
festivities begin in earnest at the cross roads at Sandymount Green.
Of course the usual suspects, Cíaran Mac Mathúna, Ruairí
Quinn, Pat McEvoy, Tom Aherne, Bob Ryan and Peter & Bridie Murphy
will bring their own vim and vigour to the event.
Grand Marshall and M.C. for the day is local chemist Michael McAuliffe
who will no doubt lead from the front. Make sure you dress up in disguise
as they are prizes for disguises.
Bennett's Auctioneers have generously dedicated their premises to provide
tea and coffee, under the stewardship of Bridie Murphy. Of course something
stronger will be available in Gus Ryan's and Tommy O'Reilly's. A picture
of the Wren Day brigade in action during the Bloomsday Festival in Sandymount
earlier in the year.
Michael McAuliffe, Tom Ahern and Pat McEvoy will be bringing their entertaining
talents to the
limelight on the Guinness Gig Rig during the Wren Day celebrations on
St. Stephen’s Day.
All proceeds in aid of C.P.I. on Sandymount Avenue.
