JIMMY McLOUGHLIN
By Larry Pullen

In a recent talk with that very helpful man in the Gilbert and Pearse Street Library, attendant Jimmy McLoughlin, he told me that it was a labour of love rather than a job. Jimmy was with the Corporation 20 years and was successful in his his application to become a porter in one of the most famous Libraries in Dublin.

Jimmy told me that the library gets requests for lineage and heritage, sent to them from all over the World.

He cycles to work at the library every morning from Ballybough, and has being doing so for the 12 years he's been there. Two days a week he works till eight, and his jobs include a lot more than you'd think. He has always got on with the staff, Head Librarians, Maura Kennedy of the Gilbert and Sheila Kelly from the Pearse Library, plus all the casual staff, too numerous to name. Jimmy's forever smiling face and his great service are deeply appreciated by all. Dublin Corporation have plans to refurbish the Library in the near future.
