LACEY ELECTED FIRST-EVER CATHAOIRLEACH OF DUBLIN REGIONAL AUTHORITY
By Brian Kelly

Dermot LaceyFormer Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Dermot Lacey was recently elected the first-ever-Labour Party Cathaoirleach of the Dublin Regional Authority. Speaking after his election Councillor Lacey said he was delighted to be elected to the post.

He wanted the Authority to “campaign for real reform of our antiquated system of Local Government including the direct election of a Lord Mayor for the entire Dublin Region. The people of Dublin have been badly let down by Government in terms of finance, structures and resources and it is long past time that Dublin began to exert itself. It is time quite simply to stand up for Dublin. I hope during my term of office to be an advocate for Dublin and to challenge all public bodies to deliver a better deal for our county”.

The Dublin Regional Authority is comprised of 29 members drawn from the Dublin City Council and the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, Fingal and South Dublin County Councils.

Councillor Dermot Lacey has served on Dublin City Council since 1993 and represents the Pembroke area of Dublin South East.
