Be careful, be safe The Gardai in Irishtown and Donnybrook are asking readers to be extra vigilant over the Easter Holidays and to report anything suspicious. There have been burglaries in the area and in most cases entry was gained by leaving windows and doors open or insecure. Treat door-to-door callers and all persons who are not known to you with caution. Insist on photographic identification. If you think any caller, even a child, looks suspicious DON'T LET THEM IN. You can tell them you're busy and get them to call back when someone else is at home with you. Remember if the person is genuine they will appreciate your fears and will not mind calling back or proving who they are. If you are suspicious, please phone the Garda' immediately with a brief description of appearance, age and height and any particulars of vehicles, if used. Happy Easter! Regular readers of NewsFour will know something of the work that is carried on at the Anchorage Project on York Road, Ringsend. Activities include a pre-school playgroup that operates each morning, a children's club each week, facilities for breeding rabbits, guinea pigs, budgies, canaries, finches, a greenhouse and other facilities and activities. During the week of Monday May 10th until Friday May 14th the Anchorage Project will be having an 'Open Week' during which the local community will be welcome to call down to the premises and see all of the developments for themselves. Each day there will be a huge selection of summer plants available for sale as well as hanging baskets, tubs and window boxes with a coffee dock available for all. There will be a children's after school club operating each day and various 'events' happening each lunchtime and evening. Various teams of volunteers will be helping out each day from a ship called 'The Doulos' which will be visiting Dublin Port during May 7th-17th. Feel free to call down any lunchtime or evening during the open week and pick up something to brighten up your garden and window ledge and in the process you can help a project in the developing world. Parade at Ringsend Library 1945 Pictured here is a march-past
by officers of the Red Cross 74th Division opposite Ringsend Library in
1945. Note Clynes Butchers, then sited at the top right corner of the
picture beside Fitzwilliam Street and the entrance door to what is now
the News Four offices. There seems to be a rough concrete structure with
a door at the right side of the library. Do any readers remember its purpose
and when it was removed? |
