Dodder Youth Service is a service that provides safe and secure recreational, educational and support activities relevant to the changing needs of all young people between the ages of 10-21years in the Ringsend and District Area.

Our New Logo
DYS are delighted to launch our new Logo, shown above. The Logo was chosen as one of many designed by our youth forum in a competition. It represents the chimneys in Ringsend and young people walking over the bridge on their journey through life. So wherever you see it appearing it will indicate a DYS event.

Festival
DYS is having a weekend festival on the 25th, 26th, 27th of June. The purpose of this festival is to celebrate young people and our community and to 'kick-off' our summer. A fun weekend for adults and for young people is expected, so watch out for our full programme in 'NewsFour' and displayed in shops and schools on our posters. Looking forward to seeing you!

Youth Recognition Awards The youth recognition award is an award for young people in the Ringsend and District area from the ages of 10-21years. The purpose is to recognise youth achievement no matter how great or small. If you know of any young person who you think deserves the award, collect a nomination form from DYS. These will be available from the end of April in our office, some will also be available in the local shops, schools and post office. Nomination forms need to be returned by the 24th May 2004. We will be having a ceremony and presentation of awards on Sunday 27th June 2004 at our festival weekend.

Young People's Groups
We run special interest groups. These are in response to requests and interest of our young people. At present, we have a boys and a girls teenage group and also a mixed group for the under 13s. If you are interested in joining a similar group then give your name to Alison or Breda (Youth Workers).

'Drop-In'
Are you interested in snooker/pool, fuse ball and having a place to relax and 'hang out' with your friends? Our drop-in is a youth club for young people aged between 15 to 21yrs. It runs on Monday nights from 8pm-9.30pm in the porta cabins in the Ringsend and District Community Centre. Hope to see you there!

Youth Advice
Are you looking for advice or information? Why not drop into youth advice. This service offers information and advice to young people aged 10-21yrs, parents and anyone with an interest in youth issues.

We have information on services for young people from all areas including: health and healthy eating, FAS/college courses, hobbies, sports, etc. We can help if you need your CV typed, career or college information or to practice your interview technique. Drop along to the DYS office and meet Wesley (Project Leader), Maureen (Volunteer) on Wednesday from 5.30-pm-7.30pm.

Youth Forum
Our Youth Forum consists of 15 young people over the age of 13 from Ringsend and District Area. They meet once per month with the purpose of being a voice for young people. Much of the work of the youth forum consists of identifying youth issues that are relevant to Ringsend and District then communicating these to the relevant boards, TDs, etc in order to make positive change for youth. Two representatives from the youth forum are on the DYS Management Committee where the sharing of information happens.

Volunteers
We would firstly like to thank the volunteers that have been involved in the service since we started. We are always looking for more volunteers. Volunteers make a unique contribution to a youth service. However, DYS are very much aware of the modern-day pressures people experience.
Volunteering with DYS could provide you with a satisfying way of contributing to making a positive impact for the future of young people and our community. Could you offer just 2 hours per month? Maybe you would like to get involved for the Summer, Easter or our festival weekend?

We have lots of opportunities for getting involved in interesting activities whatever your forte: organisation, creativity, football, music, dance, promotions or directly working with youth. Please contact the above telephone number at our office to get involved.

Summer
Our Summer Programme will be running again over the summer months including the ever popular ‘Splash Week.’ We are sending a huge appeal to the community for volunteer participation. The event cannot run without the strength of our volunteers. Dates for registration for youth will be displayed on posters over the next few months. Lots of fun expected!
